Black Sheep Candles Project

Black Sheep Candles Project

I am very excited to announce my latest project with Black Sheep Candles.

Black Sheep Candles is a unique candle company who work with 100% Soy Wax for fresh, beautiful smelling candles. I have currently been working on a project for the company as the owner wanted to achieve a site where her customers could see the candles available, news, events and nearest locations to buy the candles. I choose WordPress as this is very clean, slick, professional and would be something the client could work with herself.

So far I have been working with Photography for the client in order to make her candles stand out and allow customers to see exactly what they are buying. The website is on going currently and other photography.

Photography Final Piece A2 Module

Photography Final Piece A2 Module

Throughout my A2 year, I decided to look at the theme of mental health and body image in the media.

I worked on this for several months and choose Contours as my exam question. I felt I could highlight this through focusing on the skin and body. I started off by photographing parts of the body including the eyes, nose and ears. I developed this further by looking into macro photography and scanograpy. Throughout this I wanted my aim to be working with different materials. This included collage, stitching, sewing and more.

For my final piece I set out to combine the same style narrative as my previous images however have my images manually manipulated and presented differently. I worked with sewing words into my images and stitching into the eyes, I felt this could create the illusion of what goes through peoples mind when they go into deep thinking. I also printed off on brown paper and other style papers to show that over time these feelings stay the same. Finally I decided to present my work in several ways; a consatina book which opened out and presented images on both the back and front, a large piece of paper that has images stuck on neat and in proportion, a large piece of paper that has images stuck on in a collage style with stitching from the bottom to the top of the paper similar to Annette Messager who was one of my first artists I researched and finally I created a frame that I stitched all the images together and stitched this around the frame, to make this look more attention grabbing I decided to make this appear more 3D and used test tubes to stick makeup and false eyelashes inside. I feel my final piece as a whole reinforces the idea of how women have to look a certain way and have added pressure. I am very pleased with the overall piece and couldn’t have asked for a better final outcome. I feel my work throughout the project has remained true to its message and that was my overall inspiration for this piece.

Below shows the final outcome.

Black & White Photography Development

Black & White Photography Development

After having a lot of success with Black & White Photography and Projection, I decided to combine my influences from two artists I have researched Annette Messager and Solve Sundsbo and create a shoot based on both of them.

I decided to Photograph the subject matter of Annette by photographing Body Parts and choose to use Projection and a similar Projection inspired by Solve in order to achieve this shoot.

At first I didn’t know if this shoot would have the same success as the other two due to the subject matter being completely different so I didn’t know if this would be enough to make it stimulating and stand out.

The final images offer a lot of Compositional Rules including Simplicity, Rule of Thirds, Golden Section, Leading Lines, Negative Space and also Abstract Imagery. My favourite is the one of the models neck from the front where it features an x-ray projected, I think this is very Abstract and the most thought provocking.

Product Photography

Product Photography

I am currently working on Photographing Glassware and Bottles for APC Pure. (Click for link to see Product pictures on website).

To photograph Glassware Is very hard due to the reflections in terms of the lighting and also the glass. I have found this really challenging over the past few weeks however am coming to the end of the process where I am now starting to achieve High Quality Product Shoots after Trial and Error.

The process is now becoming a lot quicker due to the success I am having  and I am very happy with the outcome of the Product Pictures.

Solve Sundsbo Inspired Shoot

Solve Sundsbo Inspired Shoot

The second artist I decided to focus for Inspiration for my A2 Module is Solve Sundsbo, I choose this artist due to his editorial style images and use of projection.

I felt this artist would be a strong choice in order to develop my work forward in terms of Portraiture and Techniques.

For this shoot, I set out to feature the Compositional Rules such as: Rule of Thirds, Simplicity and Leading Lines.

I choose for this shoot to be taken in the studio using projection and to be Black & White similar to my artist.

My overall thoughts on this shoot are positive, I enjoyed the shoot throughout and the final photographs however when It came to the technical side I felt that trying to perfect the camera and lighting was hard due to how bright the projector was, to overcome this I decided to play around with the ISO and Aperture and move the projector around and the camera in order to capture different styles of light and angles.

Below shows the outcome of this shoot.

Annette Messager Inspired Shoot

Annette Messager Inspired Shoot

For my first Artist Research before my final A2 Module I choose to research into Annette Messager – I was inspired by her work of body parts and use of dark colours (Black and White & Sepia) due to how how stimulating her work was and how she could turn a normal body part and make it to seem much more.

I choose to focus on photographing the hands, eyes, nose, ears and neck. This was due to I felt these was the most personal parts on the face and the ones that would be the best to photograph as for the ear it would use a lot of Golden Section and the hands a lot of Repetition and Leading Lines.

Overall I was very shocked with the outcome, when I starting taking the photographs I was worried they would look to boring however aswell as having these as my final outcomes I created a lot of Manuals using tracing papers and even framed some to make them appear more 3D and realistic.
